Belief and Motivation

One chapter of the book is called "Belief and Motivation" and I thought I'd share just a little bit of this chapter here in the blog. The part about believing is so important. It's so important that it is the first chapter of the book.

Belief and Motivation

Belief, as in believing that we can achieve a goal, is a necessity, motivation is not. Motivation is something we make ourselves and we cannot rely on it (the only thing we can rely on is discipline, but I'll get to that in the next chapter). Belief has to be strong and consistent. Belief is a choice and we chose to believe. We have to build belief and cultivate it. With belief comes motivation. Motivation is a byproduct of belief.

We raise our belief a lot by writing down our goal and it get's even better if we write it by hand on a piece of paper, have that piece of paper by our bed and read the goal every night before we go to sleep and every morning before we start our day. Write the goal in present tense as if it is already true, don't use don'ts but use positive statements and make it as specific as possible. Here are some examples: "I wear a size __, my weight is stabile, I love my body and I enjoy my lifestyle" or "I weigh __, my weight is stabile, I love my body and I enjoy my lifestyle" or " My waist measures __ and stays there, I love my body and I enjoy my lifestyle". As you can see I think that last sentence is very important "I love my body and I enjoy my lifestyle" and isn't that the real goal? I think it is. But we do need to be specific and include the first half of the goal too or else we don't know where we are heading.

When we tell ourselves our goal again and again as if it's already true our brain starts to think of it as already true and will help build the necessary motivation to make it true. We can't live with a gab between what we believe is true for us and a different reality. If there's a gab between where we are and where we believe we belong we will make the gab disappear.
